About Me

My name is Rebecca Hyman. I craft necklaces in a style I call "modern baroque." They are lush-looking but have clean, contemporary lines. I work in precious metals and semi-precious gemstones - though I've never understood how anyone could refer to a rock as fascinating and gorgeous as a hunk of chrysacolla, lepidolite or Picasso jasper as semi anything.

I first became intrigued by gems on a visit to the Natural History Museum in New York City as a little girl, and the love affair has never ended. I can't stop staring at their striations, the juxtaposition of their opaqueness and transparency and their colors!

I say jewelry should be more than pretty, like people. It should be interesting, meaningful and have personality. It should be moving, evocative and surprising. It should be that striking combination of the elegantly precise and the timelessly natural - right there around your neck.
